This purpose built station hotel sits high on the banks of the old Kilwhimen Barracks in the highland town of Fort Augustus by the ebb of Loch Ness. The Lovat even houses the west curtain wall of the original fort, complete with gun embrasures. This historic area has a compelling variety of expeditions to be completed, from walking Telford's Caledonian canal, the Great Glen Way to the more challenging Corrieyairack Pass. Golf, horseriding, quad biking, water pursuits & fishing can also be arranged locally.
David & Geraldine, after developing the Torridon (now run by their daughter Rohaise & husband Daniel), entered into partnership with their 3rd daughter, Caroline in 2005 in Fort Augustus.
Since then the whole hotel has undergone a massive refurbishment programme, delicately offering a contemporary modern experience amidst the welcoming charm of this Victorian hotel. Always aspiring to be innovative, the newly installed central heating & water system is revolutionary in using an eco-friendly biomass wood chip burner.
All bedrooms offer modern, technologically advanced facilities: flat screen televisions; SKY TV & Internet access. However solitude can be found with stunning panoramic views across Loch Ness, the five lock canal staircase or the surrounding mountains.
The 2 rosette kitchen serves a hearty Scottish breakfast, lunch from 12noon - 2:00pm & a host of seasonal local seafood, shellfish, meat & game dishes for dinner. There dining experience in the Brasserie is with an a la carte menu (6:00pm - 9:00pm). Sustaining packed lunches are also available for exploratory days out.
